On September 17, 1945 a surrender conference was held aboard USS SLOAT DE 245 at Woleai Atoll in the Caroline Islands. Two weeks earlier, the Japanese had signed the surrender at Truk Island. Walter Kukelhan MoMM 3/c was present for the surrender and documented this important part of WWII history.
