U.S. Naval officers and Lieutenant General Masao Watanabe completing the details of the surrender of the Japanese garrison on Ponape aboard the USS Hyman (DD-732). The Instrument of Surrender was signed on 11 Sept 1945 with the occupation to begin the following day.
