The temperature has dropped, winds are howling, sweatshirts and jackets are the dress of the day, but spirits remain high!  Things are jumping in Myrtle Beach.  I was told 350 additional members and guest were expected today and from the crowds in the registration area, I think they all arrived!

The lobby and registration area are filled with groups of men swapping handshakes and manly hugs. Working my way through the crowds, I heard story after story being told.  Also, I saw photos and books being shared among shipmates and friends.

The Carolinas Chapter of DESA has a fantastic model of USS Bangust DE 739, built by Neil O. Sides. It is located at the entrance to the convention center. I estimate this model is 8 feet in length and is mounted on a trailer, as you can see in the photo.

At Noon, two Greyhound-type tour buses were filled for a day boat tour down the back waters of Myrtle Beach.  The less than perfect weather did not keep these old salts from "boarding the ship!"

It is 5:30 p.m. EST and I am off to the Early Bird Gathering and will post more photos late tonight.
See the link at the bottom of this page, below the photos.
