Dearborn, MI offered a perfect setting for the convention of 4-9 September.  The hard work and planning of the Michigan DESA Chapter and DESA office manager Dori Glaser made the event very successful.  A special thank you is extended to Dick Breil, former Skipper and Ron Smolka, Skipper and their team of Chapter volunteers.  Well Done, men.

Over 175 DE sailors were in attendance with a total of over 300 including guests.  There were several newcomers this year.  Also, almost 20 DE's held their reunions in conjuction with the convention.

Great tours were available for activity outside the hotel and plenty of events within the convenience of the hotel. The hospitality room and hotel lobby were well used!

As always, the Men's and Ladies' Ship's Stores were open for business showcasing an array of merchandise for DE sailors and their families.

The various meetings and special functions were well attended with a record number attending the Computer/Internet Seminar.  These old seadogs were anxious to learn new technology tricks!

For those of you unable to be with us, you were missed.  We hope you will be able to attend next year.

It is with great sadness that I report the death of Charlie Blincow.  So many of you knew him.  At any DESA convention you could find Charlie if you found Ralph Parkes-Pfeil.  Charlie and Ralph served in the Royal Navy aboard HMS GARDINER K-478/DE-274 and were members of the UK Captain Class Frigate Association.  DESA extends its sincere condolences to Charlie's family. We have lost a dear friend.
